Teaching a lecture-based class via Zoom seems easy. You just talk into the camera and the students, hopefully, listen. But what about moot court? Can you run a moot court competition online in the middle of a pandemic? The answer is most certainly yes!
This spring, on very short notice, I took our small intramural in-person competition and moved it completely online. In this session, I will share my tips for running a successful online moot court competition—from preparation to the final round. I will cover how to effectively organize the competition, how to use technology to your benefit, how to score effectively, and tips to share with your participants and judges to ensure a well-run, professional looking competition. These tips will be based on what worked well for us, and what I would improve if (when?) we do this all over again.
This session is especially important as some schools are thinking of moving intermural moot court competitions online in the upcoming year.
Attendees should have basic knowledge of how to use an online program like Zoom and basic knowledge about how moot court competitions run. They will leave with some great tips on how to successfully move their competitions online.
